What is (S.U.P.) Stand Up Paddle Boarding?
Stand Up Paddle Boarding is essentially standing on a very large version of a surfboard facing the nose and self-propelling yourself with a large single ended paddle along the surface of the water. SUP is a new water-sport emerging all over the world. Its popularity has skyrocketed in recent years because of its simplicity, its ability to allow users to escape the stresses of everyday life, and its ability to be a great full body workout!
SUP originated in Hawaii about 40 years ago as a way for surfing instructors to manage large groups of learner surfers. Standing on the board gives you a better view of what is going on around you such as incoming waves. When standing up you can also see much more clearly down through the surface of the water than you can in a canoe or kayak. However the history of this sport goes back much further even than Hawaii.
